Albany NY 2014 Bottle Show

22 November 2014

The Capital Region Antique Bottle and Insulator Club held its 18th Annual Show and Sale on Sunday, November 16th, 2014. They are a member club of the FOHBC and always put on a great show for all in attendance. The show was held for the second year at the Polish Community Center located on Washington Avenue in Albany, New York. This is a great location for a show with great lighting, plenty of parking and easy loading and unloading for dealers. First thing in the morning, the club offers all dealers a great selection of donuts, bagels, Danishes and muffins, all for free, along with a beverage of choice.

Jason Privler acted as Show Chair again this year. If you know Jason he has a great interest and love for the hobby. He told me they had sold over 70 tables this year, which was an all time high for the club. A line of eager buyers was waiting at the door at 9:00 am. Attendance for the show was over a hundred. There were some great displays to be seen as well. Anyone who has ever put up a display will tell you it takes work and dedication. Everyone should take a minute and thank these folks when you see them.

One of the major auction houses made it to the show as well. Greg Bair from Hecklers was set up taking consignments as well as selling things. The National Bottle Museum was on hand selling shirts and taking donations. I spoke with Phil Bernnard who has been involved for over 20 years with the museum. I told him to watch out in Bottles and Extras for an upcoming article I plan on doing in support of the Museum. He was very happy about that. I sold many issues of the Bottles and Extras magazine and was able to sign up another new member. Welcome Bob Prentiss of Voorheesville, New York.

I will close by saying that shows are still the backbone of the hobby. Every collector owes it to the hobby to support these shows. Yes there is eBay and auctions, but they don’t shake your hand and share a story with you.
