Loss of Jim Mitchell – a knowledgeable fixture in our hobby

08 February 2019

Jim Mitchell passed away February 6, 2019 after a short illness caused by a blood infection.

Jim and his brother, Bill, from Ashland, Wisconsin became interested in bottles back in the early 1970s and were actively involved with the Federation and bottle collecting ever since. Although we remember Jim for his “quirky” disposition at times which mellowed in his later years, he was a knowledgeable fixture in our hobby and that will be missed. Jim disposed of 98% of his bottles in the last years and with his wife, Lynn, traveled the world taking cruises around the world several times.

Jim and Lynn had, at one time, one of the best whiskey collections and a very nice ink collection. These were their real passions. We will thank him for his auction results catalog which he published twice over the last 10 years and is a great guide for pricing and evaluating middle to high end bottles. – Bill Mitchell
